Agreed a deal to out the RS4 and should hopefully be picked up on Saturday.

I think I'll regret it given it's in great condition and only 21k miles, but I've started a new contract (wfh and then walk to work in Canary Wharf) and I can see it'll become a bit of a luxury for the next 12 months - used only at weekends to take the dog to / from Epping forest for a run. Coupled with big service coming up, warranty renewal in July and perhaps the brakes will want doing at some point this year, sensible thing is to probably let it go whilst it still has 5 months of an Audi AUC warranty on it that's transferable to a private buyer. With the price I paid v sale price, it will have only cost me c. £250/month since July 2019 (excl tax, insurance, fuel) which seems relative value.

So plan is replace it with something for around £15K to run for a year. Weekend car, relatively nice that can fit a medium sized dog and can take some motorway use up/down to Midlands and South West to see family when lockdown ends. Also to use for UK "staycation". Plan is then to sell towards end of year and perhaps pick up something a bit more juicy for another 2-3 month euro jaunt in early 2022 (maybe a B9 RS4 or C7 RS6). So criteria is reliability, petrol, ULEZ friendly, dog friendly, relatively discreet for LDN street parking, won't shit itself in value in a year when I sell and not an SUV.

Keep leaning towards MkVII Golf GTi's (again!) but what else should I be thinking about ?

Help me chaps !

Firstly mate, That's a lovely car, with low miles that you could have offered to the wider audience have we have known, what did you get offered for it ?? No doubt I would have beaten that!!

Agreed on £31k (without advertising) with a guy on RS246. 1F3A3C4F-7C91-4C5E-A00E-4EDE8330B43D.jpeg68843F30-F546-4F52-8B42-75A51523590C.jpegA9698759-88A7-4C6B-8E59-E4113B89FFEF.jpeg29C8EFA3-DB4A-4A05-BF47-4A3DAC1768D0.jpeg22BC94C2-27CE-4129-B795-DA073EC3E702.jpegFCB85C88-2632-45D7-A369-7FC224C2AB6F.jpeg84D698E4-BFD0-4E53-BAB4-F4B981360D0D.jpeg84BC0643-8F4F-4356-A4A9-0B73E039B217.jpegE51399FE-4E4A-469B-88AD-5C24E79781A9.jpegWhich I think is good for a private sale. Had it valeted at weekend with CSL. It’s minty mint...pics don’t do it justice.

Thanks mate. I think it’s reasonable for a private sale. There’s some dealer cars with more miles for a bit more cash £33/34k (including a Nogaro), I think the highest private ad is £34k at 24k miles (but with pan roof) but the majority are now sub £30k. That coupled with a c.2k bill come July for service / warranty and that I don’t need to advertise / lose time with tyre kickers (present company excepted of course!) made it attractive for a quick sale. It’s a great car, really tight still, but the way I look at it, it’s served me well as a cross-Euro cruiser to Spain and back and I’ve enjoyed a 2 year stress free warranty / 9k miles for minimal depreciation. And I can go shopping again :)

Mk7 Golf R Estate. Ticks all of those boxes.

I test drove one before I went for the hatch. Feels exactly the same to drive and is seriously rapid. You’ll pick one up for around £16k. It’s discreet, great to drive, can even had with plenty of toys and loads of room for the dog in the back

I just found a great car on Auto Trader:

Yeah, thanks mate, this was on the list but I can’t get on with the looks. I think it looks a little clumsy styling wise and given the infrequency of long trips and the very short trips I’ll be making, I think I can get away with the hatch.

Totally get you. I’m not into the looks either. The hatch is much nicer.

Although you've just got me done up like a kipper......just showed it to the missus who usually has zero interest in cars and will only ever say "looks ok" or "whatever you think" to every suggestion......and her reply was "yeah, looks nice, actually, I really like it ".....FFS, women !!

Mercedes C class estate AMG line2015 circa 40 K miles should be within your price range and ideal for what you want.
BMW 320i touring with X drive £16 K 2016.

I really like the B7 RS4, great car, wicked noise, and a hoot to drive. Not a fan of the Golf's, they just look so bland. You need to have a car that you will look back at when you walk away from it.

B7 RS4 especially in saloon-guise is, for me, the best looking and sounding RS car there's ever been.
