Think you misunderstood.

I’ve swapped out the chrome grilles and side blades, for black and then carbon, but all versions have the M5 lettering in chrome.

No got what your meant. I’m talking about competition pack cars such as the M3/M4 and pre-LCI M5 etc having a black badge on the rear and chrome badges everywhere else.

Which again, demonstrates how we all like different things.

Somewhat agree on gloss black, but M-Performance don't make a spoiler/side skirts in gloss black and to be fair, larger items look like cheap black plastic in black, which is why I went for carbon on those. I did order from anon OEM supplier and they looked gash so went back.

With carbon, I think it is a case of not to have a car dripping in it, but the rear spoiler with its shape, perfectly goes with the roof, so that is a given for me. I've ordered my last bit of carbon today - front grilles and then I'll have chrome, black and those too - just in case 🤣

I like the mix of gloss black and carbon when done right, but now I am only missing the lower front pieces, but they are not for me and wing mirror caps, but like the rear bumper insert, that many change to gloss black, I like them body colour.

@moonstone I have a spare rear bumper insert - what do you think it would look like all carbon - clash with diffuser? I could get it carbon wrapped and the chap I've used is darn good...
You can buy the matt black plastic sideskirts/blades for the Gseries 5, that fit the M5, and paint them gloss black, this is what i did, look great. Think they were £750, supplied, painted and fitted, instaed of around £1500 for the carbon blades.

Yes, it was a consideration, but went carbon. On a black M5, I think it would look well, but some owners want a contrast.

It's all down to personal taste.

I think we all agree though - chrome isn't welcome...

I did have the carbon blades on a Sapphire Black M5, but just fancied Gloss black on the latest steed. Its funny, i have carbon rear spoiler, diffuser, and mirror caps, but wanted gloss black blades :) .

Couple of BIG updates today....

View attachment 1148View attachment 1149

Quite a bit of graft on both fronts. The wheel is much more complex to strip down and rebuild than the M3/M4 steering wheel but I got there. Same design as on my M4. Alcantara with a subtle black leather 12 o'clock marker.

On the lights. You need to completely strip the boot, remove the edge of the rear seats, front and rear sill trims, bottom of the B Pillar and under the drivers footwell, change the lights over and then remove all the pins from connectors on the bootlid lights (the outers are plug and play). Then you need to add to additional wires for the bootlid indicator sections and run these to a connector in the BDC module in the drivers footwell. All, in all its a time consuming ballache. After that there's coding required and having scoured various online forums I'm not confident in doing it myself and I don't currently have up-to-date E-Sys, Edibias, Tool32 stuff (you can only do some of it via BImmercode) so I'm paying a bloke £100 to remotely code the lights and activate full screen Carplay for me. That's supposed to be happening shortly. The inner sidelights act as both indicators and tail lights until the BDC module is coded to suit.

I get that some folks think that the LCI headlights on the M5 are a backwards step (I'm on the fence myself. The LCI benefits from a front end that juts out much more aggressively from the middle of the kidney grills downwards so personally I think it works) but I really do think the LCI tail-lights are a must have for me. It really updates the back end. Kind of ironic when you consider that not that long ago folk were updating the rear lights to LCI on the F80 (myself included) to look much like the pre-LCI design on the M5.

Here's a comparison shot: (my phone camera is determined make them look orange for some reason)

Hi Mate,
In what way was it more complex to strip the steeringwheel, compared to M4 ?. I replaced my M4 wheel myself, for the alcantara M Performance one, and thought it a bit fiddly, but managed. Is the M5 even worse to do ?, TIA (y)

If I had any other colour than black I go for gloss black blades, mirrors etc. Thought that combo looked great on my RS5 but if you want a contrast in a black car you don’t have many other options than carbon.

I’ve got exactly what you describe on mine, the G30 blades but painted in sapphire to match the body. I’d prefer carbon as I think it would tie the front and back together.

It’s the exact same process in the M5 but it’s just a bit more fiddly as there’s more stuff crammed in there. I just found it a bit more awkward and time consuming with the new wheel.

Feeling much better today. Sinuses bother me but I seem to be over the worse of the dreaded Covid. Decided to fit my Stercken knock-off front lip, which doesn’t look as good as the real thing but was about a quarter of the price. I’m not 100% on this set-up as I think I might go for the RKP lip eventually but this certainly adds a bit more aggression to the front end.

In fact. I forgot to mention I ended up knocking off a tiny surface mount capacitor off of the wheel vibration unit (whilst undoing a torx screw) and had to solder the bugger back in. That was a pain in the arse!

@Simonh & @The Revenant

Here’s a question for you. It looks to me that my driver side rear wheel is closer to the wheel arch than the passenger side. Might just be something to do with my drive but just wondering if either of you have seen or thought anything similar with your own cars?

Just had a quick look for you. Both sides look level. I have the wheelarch plastic spats, and the measurement from the centre of the wheel centre caps, is roughly 370mm to the bottom of the wheel arch lip.

Thanks for checking. Mine is lowered on MSS adjustable springs but I have receipts showing it was setup and re-geo’d only about ten months ago via the previous owner so I’d be surprised if it was something to do with that. Was just wondering if it was something that was more noticeable on different surfaces.

I’ll check it again on a different parking spot once I’m allowed out again!

@The Revenant any chance of a photo of your wheel with the paddle shifterz installed? I’m looking at them but can’t decide which finish to go for.
