Had my car in at a specialist yesterday to have the suspension adjusted and geometry re-done. The car has MSS adjustable springs on it but the last owner had the rears slammed. I wanted to bring them back up a bit. I don’t like the aesthetic look where the top of the tyre disappears into the arch and the ride was a bit harsh.

Before it went the rear driver side arch gap was less than the rear passenger side. I spoke to the guys about this and they said when they set it up, the adjust based on the chassis leg rather than the arch. Now I’ve got it back it’s still a bit uneven (albeit not as low). There’s not a huge amount in it but it’s enough for me to notice.

They went through the geometry adjustment with me and the car feels tremendous so it’s purely an aesthetic issue, but I’m thinking about taking it to the guys that did my RS5 instead.

I’ve never had a car where the arch gap is different on one side than the other. I’m also considering just taking the wheel off and adjusting that side myself to even it out.

Thoughts?

Sometimes this can happen, does the car look straight, on a perfectly level surface crouched down from 20 yards?

It looks fine. They also went through the geometry report in detail and explained everything. Must admit I learned a few things yesterday.

The car feels great. Noticeably better than before. So everything is bang on. It’s just that the arch gap on one side looks about 10cm bigger than the other.

That sounds a lot, but the last thing you want is to adjust then have the car loped over to one side. I have always found on some BMWs that one side will sit ever so slightly higher off the tyre on one side. Have you measured the centre middle arch to ground, and centre wheel cap to top of arch on both sides? Tyre profile the same?

Sorry. Just realised I typed 10cm instead of 10mm!

Ive not measured it. I’ll do that tomorrow. It’s the kind of thing that no one else would notice apart from me to be honest.

….but it’s enough to annoy me.

I knew you meant that distance mate. LOL.

I notice things like this, the finger test usually is all it’s takes!

Decided to book the car into the place that did my RS5. I'm just not happy with the difference on each side. They did an amazing job last time but they're further away. It's going to piss me off until it's perfect so needs must.

Are you sure it won’t settle after a period? If it’s adjustable can’t you justLower it a few mm?

It’s too low on one side. Needs to come up . Can’t do it without taking the wheels off and disconnecting the lower arms. Problem is if I just adjust the height on one side I’ll knock the geometry out.

It might be that the rear axle is running off. The boys at Kenneth Brown (where I’m taking it) will sort it for sure but most likely will charge me a bit more than Automek (where it’s been previously).
