A couple of months back I was looking at changing up for a 488 or 458 I have been thinking about doing this for a while, and I have seen 488 prices dropping and they are stunning looking cars, however, in a way I am glad I didn't.

It would appear that now the 488's are getting into used mileage for a Ferrari they are starting to show there true colours. Doing the rounds on the Ferrari forums there is some alarming recent experiences. A couple of examples: Rocker cover gaskets are very common failing item on most Ferraris, the engines get really hot, the gaskets go brittle, crack then leak. It happens in many cars this, however, In the 488 one guy as just been quoted $21k to have them done!! its a big engine out job apparently! The 458 is getting issues as well, like Timing cover leaks.

I mean, a Ferrari is not cheap to run, and most know that, tally that with the rising cost of everything and labour and they are getting next level!

Its not just Ferrari though, Malaren's do nothing for me, but looking at some of the repair bills and they will make you pull a whitey.

I know the German cars aren't without issue, but as a reliable means of transport and in some cases Sporty, they are pretty darn good !

I cant comprehend how a rocker cover replacement can cost $ (Ā£?) 21k even if the engine needs to come out. $250/hr labour (?) and that is a 2week job?!?!

So, it just paying for the experience i guess.....

Sadly, not a problem i am ever going to have to facešŸ˜”

I know it boggles the mind, seems legit though, that is a main dealer quote, and seems consistent, some specialists are turning the job away, as there is quite a lot involved !

That's the thing with the exotics, even as they fall in price, the cost to run, maintain and repair doesn't come down with it!

I first experienced this some time ago back in 2008 ish, I bought an SL55 AMG F1 Pace car, The car I bought for Ā£40k if I recall (it was a Ā£130k car new) after some hooning around it was getting near needing new discs and pads. They where main dealer only, no pattern parts and Ā£3100+VAT just for the fronts.

You might get the car cheaply but the parts they need are still from a Ā£130k car!
