What EV do like?

I liked the look of them when they came out, but having seen a few on the road and sat in one in the showroom, they just don't float my boat. The interior is bright & light, but sparse & cheap feeling compared to my X3. For such a sizeable car, the boot space is shallow, and with a sloping hatch it's not that spacious compared to the BMW, and that's something I definitely need on a regular basis. I get the feeling the styling will date pretty quickly, and I really don't like those hideous plastic sill-guards and arches. They make it nigh-on impossible to pick any of the darker colours without creating an awkward contrast line.

If the iX3 wasn't (a) so pricey and (b) so unavailable, particularly with the sort of discounts I had on the M40i, then I'd consider that as an interim step towards a bespoke-design EV at some point in the future.

I looked at the EV6 and whilst it's much more palatable from a design/interior perspective, again it's the shallow boot & sloping roofline that puts me off.

Really, really don't like the look of Teslas - especially the Model Y which is the only one that comes anywhere near meeting my space requirements. If Elon put as much resource into hiring decent designers to fix the sad & gloopy 'melted domestic appliance' looks then he could clean up. Once the other manufacturers & providers get as good a supercharger network in place as Tesla (and they will) then the desire to pick a Tesla over other offerings will reduce dramatically I think.

In the end I'm struggling with the desire to 'do the right thing' environmentally (and from a rising cost perspective) against the sheer enjoyment I get from driving what will probably one of the last affordable performance vehicles with a powerful petrol straight six. I kind of rationalise it by thinking that holding on to the X3 for a longish time means one less EV manufactured....

Think he's doing a pretty good job at that already to be fair, apparently the richest man in the world by some margin and Tesla can sell more cars than they can make at full RRP. But yes, I do agree styling could be improved.

Yup, we have to remember that most people who buy cars, particularly of the Tesla variety, aren't true enthusiasts like those of us who frequent these forums. They'll be buying on cost benefits, practicality etc. The way some people frankly don't give a shit about how they look after or maintain their cars tells us all we need to know. What it looks like is far down their list of concerns.

All the Tesla owners I know have had decent cars in the past, and are very enthusiastic about their new purchases. They have always cared about their cars and still do.

I have to say I agree on the Tesla interior, but then I'd say most BMWs interiors are a bit 'meh' too. I was certainly willing to look past the interior when I bought my F32. Not all car enthusiasts think the same thing.

I don't doubt it, but I'd imagine they're car people like us. My point was that most people who buy a car don't look at or care about the things we do. It's just an A to B tool. Chuck the kids in etc. And it's fair to say Tesla don't need to worry about those of us who don't think they look the best when their sales are as good as they are. One of my best mates is a car enthusiast and after a string of great cars he's now in a Model 3.
