It doesn't always have to be the most expensive, but what is the best car you have ever driven and why?

Escort RS Turbo - back in early 90s. Chipped to a heady 160hp and lowering springs.

I considered buying another one about 4-5yrs ago and then decided to leave those memories intact.

I had an RS Turbo Mk1, loved that car, and it was "chipped" to 200bhp (so the tuner claimed) and it was Epic, first real Torquey push back in the seat!

Soon went wrong though!

1985 Toyota MR2 Mk1 facelift. It was the very first car that I bought in my own name. When I did buy it, it was over ten years old and had 120,000 miles on the clock. I modded it, broke it a couple of times, lost control of it and bent the chassis by hitting a high kerb sideways. Got it fixed and kept it for another few years. It was awesome. It wasn't the T Bar but you could lift the sunroof out and put it in a holder under the bonnet. Pop-up headlights as well.

I loved it with every fibre of my being and I've often thought about buying another one as a project car but too much time as passed and I fear the memory is much better than the reality.

Aside from all that if we're talking purely about the best product, I have to say it was one of the very first Audi R8s that I had a go off on a track day. I'm determined that I will buy one of these at some point.

Renault Clio with semi sequential gearbox which was bit of a challenge as changing down was easy but clutch to change up. Great chassis and easy to pivot round corners, preferred it to the 911 with a clunky auto. However the Clio was pipped by the Caterham which was just great fun. Had a thing for 16v Golf GTis, really needed to rev it to get the best out of it, cocked a rear wheel into a sharp corner but much nicer with a meatier anti roll bar and better dampers.

BMW 1M, it was just on point back in 2011 and nothing looked better with those enormous rear hips. I sold the car after 3.5 years but kept the limited artwork and polo shirt that came with it:censored:

I had an ex-race 1990 Caterham 7 Supersprint 1.7 and had loads of great memories, especially trips to Le Mans 24, Germany and Ireland.

This happened! Broke down in a town in Ireland, called the RAC who sent a local service. I can’t remember the chap’s name exactly but it was totally Irish, like Mick O’Connor. Anyway, on the side of his van it said “Mick O’Connor Breakdown Service. On call 23.5 hours a day”.
