Car was at Porsche for a couple of days for a mandatory recall check. Basically they changed some kind of sealant at the factory and there had been a couple of instances of water getting into the battery. Anywaycar was checked and given the all clear.
They gave me a Taycan Cross Tourismo 4S as a courtesy car for two days. In the same bloody colour as my own.
It was really weird how the driving experience was similar but difference. Slightly down on power but the suspension and handling was very different. It felt like a much bigger car and, weirdly as the car sits higher, the driving position felt lower.
Also it sounded different. More a high-pitched whine when giving it the beans compared to a more baritone version of the same soundtrack on the GTS.
Was glad to be back in my own and I’ve really gone off the estate in terms of looks now!
My neighbour has just swapped his Taycan for one of these estate ones. Personally I preferred the old one.

At one point I was contemplating the Sport Tourismo (same shape without the Audi All-Road bits of the Cross Tourismo) instead of the saloon. I think they look great from the rear but shit from every other angle. Whereas I think the saloon is one of the best looking cars on the road currently.

All Taycan prices and all EVs are falling like a stone on the used market because of the government incentives on new ones. Those don’t exist on the used market so businesses don’t want them.
If you’re buying privately, then it would be crazy to buy a new one. Approved used with warranty is the way to go unless money is no object to getting your exact spec. A lot of cheap ones are out of warranty now though and personally I feel the tech is still too new to have one without. So if buying used I’d be factoring a Porsche warranty into the price.
Facelift is due imminently so that might dent used prices further. Maybe I’m just getting old but I personally feel the facelift is a step backwards.
Im still loving mine. It’s so capable and great to drive. My only complaint is the range but that doesn’t affect me really because of the types of journeys I do. Plug it in once a week and it costs me 7 quid to fill it up
The 4S I had as a courtesy car recently was a subtly different drive in a number of areas but not extensively so.
Gotcha, and that facelift should be on the program Botched !

Took the lad out on the bikes today. Never used a cycle carrier in my life never mind on a car with a glass roof but it survived intact!

Have been hankering for a little lip spoiler for the Taycan for a while and decided to take a punt on a cheap gloss black one from Ali Express. Doesn't really photograph well but I'm quite pleased with it. Works well with the rest of the black bits on the car.

There’s a lot of chat about depreciation, infrastructure, tyres etc but none of that really affects me. I don’t do enough miles and the car will go back at the end of its term.
Driving it feels no different from an ICE car. I’ve not driven any other EVs, nor have I tried 1-pedal driving (it’s not available on the Taycan). I’ve only driven a Taycan base model and this, so I don’t have lots of comparisons to make with other EVs. I can only compare it to other cars in general.
Every time I drive it, I’m re-impressed. Fit and finish is very nice but not really any different, in my view, to a well specced Audi or BMW. Perfomance is great. Handling, speed, cornering is all superb and it’s really fun to drive. The GTS has a better chassis set up and is rear-wheel biased so you can get the back end out and it’s lots of fun on a B road. Apart from the noise I’d say that it’s a better car than the M5 that it replaced.
Things I would criticise are that for a car this big, there really should be more room in the back, the Porsche infotainment system is surprisingly buggy in comparison to the equivalent Audi system and finally, I’d like a slightly chunkier steering wheel.
Would I buy another one? No.
But only because, as good as it is, it can’t compete with the R8 for thrills and if we’re going somewhere as a family with the dog in tow, we end up in my wife’s more practical Q5.
Would I buy another EV to replace it? Yes, but coupled with the R8 it’s more likely to be an SUV. The new Macan would be a shout or the equivalent from BMW or Audi but the Taycan is here for the next three years and I’ll continue to enjoy it whilst it’s here.

Not sure I could justify the lease costs for the Taycan particularly with the real world range on offer although the facelift models seemed to have improved. Will need to change the Tesla soon but which one to go for next. New performance model looks really good value but KwH efficiency doesn’t look great on other makes.
